About the Artist

Steve Gill—known affectionately as “Cool Pop” by his five grandchildren—is a lifelong artist, photographer, and semi-retired optometrist living in Mandeville, Louisiana.

After a career helping patients see the world more clearly as a low vision optometrist with the Veterans Health Care System, Steve now devotes his time to painting—a transition from healing eyes to delighting them.

Working in oils, acrylics, and ink, he finds inspiration in the landscapes, wildlife, architecture, and distinctive culture of South Louisiana. His years of studying vision have given him a deep appreciation for the subtle interplay of light, color, and detail, influences that are reflected throughout his work.

Steve hopes each painting encourages viewers to slow down, look closely, and rediscover the beauty and wonder found in familiar places
